About
Hi, I’m Liv Bolton. I absolutely love the outdoors, I’m a journalist and in 2018 I thru-hiked the South Island of New Zealand. That 1300km trip sparked the idea for this podcast.
The Outdoors Fix is podcast to inspire YOU to make adventures outdoors a bigger part of YOUR life.
I speak to fantastic women and men who have changed their lives to get outdoors more and their stories and tips can help listeners do the same! There’s also practical advice about hiking, cycling, wild swimming, landscape photography to get stuck into too.
Recorded outside, the podcast also opens up the conversation about how the outdoors can be key to our wellbeing. You’ll hear how it’s helped some people with their mental health, connected people, brought purpose and a whole lot of fun to people’s lives.
The Outdoors Fix launched in February 2019 and there have been six series so far.

Why should I listen?
Do you wish more of your life was spent outdoors going on adventures? Hiking, wild swimming, rock climbing, paddle-boarding? Why not make it happen?
In the podcast, you’ll get to hear stories from some fantastic women and men who have made changes in their lives to make the outdoors a bigger part of their everyday.
You’ll discover practical advice about how they did it and how you can make it happen too!
But the podcast isn’t unrealistic. It also looks at questions like whether living a more outdoors life is financially viable, whether it can help or hinder friendships and relationships and whether it’s a long-term possibility.
In each episode you’ll also get a minute of the sounds of nature, to relax and take stock – a real outdoors fix. It might be birdsong, wind rustling the leaves in the trees, or even just waves crashing.
The podcast is for those of us sitting in offices but wishing we weren’t. Those of us who feel our complete selves when out in the fresh air. Or those who have that that unsettled feeling, of wanting bigger adventures in life.
I hope sharing the conversations that I’m having is useful and that it helps you move a little closer to making your bigger outdoors life a reality for you too!

I wanted to make this podcast because I’ve just come back from my New Zealand hiking adventure and it had me addicted.
I got a sabbatical from work and I thru-hiked 1300km of the Te Araroa trail on the South Island with my friend Ali. (I’ve written more about it in this blog post.) Yep it was a long way, 68 days in fact. And I can never eat packet pasta again. But it was the best thing I’ve ever done. And it made me want more of that kind of existence.
So since coming back to the UK, I’ve been seeking advice from lots of amazing people about how to make the outdoors more of your life. The podcast is a way to share what people are telling me and to create less work for you!
